Managing Partner and CEO, RedBird Capital Partners
Gerry Cardinale is the Managing Partner and Chief Executive Officer of RedBird Capital Partners, a private equity investment firm that brings together entrepreneurs and family offices to make growth equity investments in partnership with business founders who have a proven track record of success.
Launched in 2013 with offices in New York and Dallas, RedBird focuses on long term capital appreciation with an emphasis on compounding equity returns over longer holding periods to maximize superior risk-adjusted returns. To date, RedBird has led over $1.5 billion of investments across its four key industry verticals – Communications; Sports, Leisure & Hospitality; Energy and Industrial Services; and Financial & Business Services. Mr. Cardinale has had a 25-year career investing in the Communications industries, most recently leading RedBird’s investment in TierPoint, which continues his two-decade partnership with communications entrepreneur Jerry Kent.
In 2012, Mr. Cardinale retired from Goldman Sachs after a 20-year career where he was a Partner of the firm and a senior leader of the Merchant Bank’s private equity investing business, which managed over $100 billion of private capital across equity, debt, real estate and infrastructure investment strategies. While at Goldman, Mr. Cardinale led the investment team that partnered with Jerry Kent in the build-up of Suddenlink Communications, creating the nation’s seventh largest cable provider prior to its sale in 2012 for $6.6 billion.
In addition to TierPoint, Mr. Cardinale sits on the boards of On Location Experiences, the National Football League’s global ticketing, hospitality and events business; Aethon United, an investment platform in the natural gas industry; Zenith Shipping, an operator of dry bulk vessels and product/crude tankers in partnership with a leading family-based operator; the Yankees Entertainment & Sports (“YES”) Network, which is the #1 Regional Sports Network in the country; and Yankee Global Enterprises, the corporate holding company of the New York Yankees and its affiliated businesses.
Mr. Cardinale received an Honors A.B. from Harvard University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and an MPhil in Politics and Political Theory from Oxford University where he was a Rhodes Scholar. He sits on several non-profit boards including Mt Sinai Hospital in New York City; the American Association of Rhodes Scholars; and Yo Yo Ma’s Silk Road Project.
