Hybrid IT flexibility: Most organizations deploy a mix of cloud types and on-premises resources –physical and virtual. At TierPoint, we’ve built our business by recognizing the value of hybrid IT solutions for real-world scenarios. Microsoft also recognizes this, and Microsoft Azure is flexible. Whether you need a disaster recovery solution for site-to-site, site-to-Azure, Azure-to-Azure, or use a VMware or a Microsoft Hyper-V server as a source, Azure can cover any of these DR scenarios. Only pay for what you use: The Azure cost model can be advantageous for disaster recovery, because you aren’t paying for computation resources you don’t use. Software-defined DR: No disaster recovery program is successful without recovery. Beyond replicating your data, software-defined DR allows you to rapidly failover to the replicated data and get users accessing your recovered systems more quickly – nearly instantaneously. There are many network components that need to be attached and connected before your end-users can get online using recovered systems. TierPoint uses software-defined technologies to integrate recovery from multi-platform production applications and databases.
Microsoft treats infrastructure like software and has invested heavily in automation and runbooks. You can use network policy to automatically discover a virtual machine (VM) when it comes online and add it to a load balancer, for example. Firewall policy, load balancer policy and availability sets on Azure make automated failover and high availability easier. Test failover capabilities: The ability to test a recovery plan is nearly as vital as the plan itself. Azure Site Recovery provides full test failover support to validate your replication strategy or to perform a disaster recovery drill. Even better, doing a test failover doesn’t have any impact to the ongoing replication or your production environment (no data loss, no downtime). Whether you are testing failover for a single virtual machine or your entire recovery plan, Microsoft can accommodate your testing strategy.
