Enterprises in Oklahoma and other Midwestern states will get a boost in computing capacity and network bandwidth with the grand opening of TierPoint’s second data center in Tulsa, OK, a $20 million, 30,000-square-foot facility that opened its doors March 1. This addition gives TierPoint 15 data centers in the central US and 40 nationwide–all connected via a 10G coast-to-coast network and partnerships with multiple national service providers.

More than 150 guests, including local business and community leaders, attended the ribbon cutting and open house, which featured cocktails and food at Noah’s, a local event venue, a presentation on the future of IT infrastructure, and tours of the new data center.

“I have been to many events throughout my career and this was one of the best I’ve ever experienced. The Tulsa community really rallied around this event and there was true excitement in the room,” said Boyd Goodfellow, regional vice president of sales for TierPoint.

The growing interest in edge technology makes Oklahoma one of the most inviting data center markets in the country. This latest facility substantially increases the IT resources available to Midwest businesses and government agencies that face increasingly compute-intensive applications, including Big Data analytics, machine learning, and AI, and ubiquitous computing through IoT and smartphones. As these new technologies become increasingly common in business, so does the need for high quality, secure hosting facilities, and high-speed bandwidth.

The new data center boasts a wide range of high-end features for enterprise computing, including 16,000 square feet of raised floor, dual factor, biometrical access control with around-the-clock onsite security, dual utility service feeds with onsite TierPoint controlled substations; independent AB power distribution; N+1 backup generators; N+1 HVAC deployment; all designed for supporting up to 350 watts per square foot of raised floor, and fiber connections to nearby Tulsa and Oklahoma City data centers. The facility is designed and operated to meet SSAE 18, PCI-DSS, GLBA and HIPAA security and compliance standards, verified by annual assessments of all 40 TierPoint facilities.

We’d like to thank everyone that joined us for the grand opening and are looking forward to supporting our clients and the growing computing needs of the region.
