LATRO Gains a Scalable, Secure Foundation for Global Telecom and Fintech Services

Learn how LATRO strengthened its global telecom and fintech services with secure, scalable, cost-efficient TierPoint colocation in Pennsylvania.

“Security is very important to us because it’s very important to our customers. We work with telecom operators and fintech service providers that have stringent requirements for protecting their networks and their data, and we hold our infrastructure and technology to those same high standards. Security was a non-negotiable for us.”

Chief Operating Officer, LATRO

About LATRO

LATRO is a global technology and managed services provider helping telecom and mobile network operators, as well as digital financial service providers, protect revenue, combat fraud, and improve operational performance.

Serving customers across more than 50 global markets, LATRO provides fraud prevention, revenue assurance, billing and charging support, Fintech reconciliation, managed services, and AI-enabled analytics. Its platforms process large volumes of telecom and financial data to identify anomalies and reduce revenue leakage.

Much of that work depends on a hybrid infrastructure model, with customer-site systems connected to LATRO’s centralized production environment.

The Challenge

LATRO previously operated a fully managed virtual private cloud hosted in India. Over time,
increasing costs became difficult to sustain, especially for a business serving many costconscious
international markets.

Managing the environment had also become cumbersome. Provisioning and change requests
could take longer than LATRO needed, and LATRO sometimes continued to be billed for resources
it had already requested to remove.

LATRO also needed stronger availability assurances. They had experienced an ISP-related outage
in their previous environment and wanted stronger availability commitments for infrastructure
supporting customer-facing services.

The company needed an infrastructure model that could provide:

  • A more sustainable cost structure.
  • Greater infrastructure control.
  • Low-latency global connectivity.
  • Strong security and compliance support.
  • Capacity to scale with growing data and compute demands.

The Solution

LATRO selected TierPoint colocation in Pennsylvania to serve as the main hub for its production infrastructure.

The move allowed LATRO to use existing compute hardware rather than continuing to add recurring charges for virtual resources. Its technical team now directly manages its compute environment, hypervisors, firewalls, and other infrastructure components within TierPoint’s facility.

TierPoint’s 100% uptime SLA also addressed LATRO’s need for a highly available environment supporting critical applications and customer services.

Today, approximately 90% of LATRO’s cloud and production infrastructure resides at TierPoint.

The environment supports centralized applications and big data analytics that help LATRO monitor customer environments, process large data sets, troubleshoot applications, and deliver managed services.

Network performance was especially important. LATRO’s hybrid architecture connects the Pennsylvania environment with customer systems around the world, and some applications have stringent latency and packet-loss requirements. During the evaluation process, TierPoint worked with LATRO to test connectivity and verify the environment could meet those needs.

Security was equally critical. LATRO processes sensitive telecom and financial information, and must meet customer, national, and international datasecurity requirements.

“Security is very important to us because it’s very important to our customers,” said Schumacher. “We work with telecom operators and fintech service providers that have stringent requirements for protecting their networks and their data, and we hold our infrastructure and technology to those same high standards. Security was a non-negotiable for us.”

A Carefully Planned Migration

LATRO’s technical operations team built the new infrastructure at TierPoint, backed up the existing cloud environment, and restored it onto the new platform.

The two environments then ran in parallel while systems and data were synchronized. Workloads were migrated in phases, with testing before cutover and rollback options in place if needed.

According to LATRO, the migration was completed without significant downtime.

“What stood out was the flexibility and professionalism,” said Schumacher. “We would ask TierPoint to test latency to lists of IP addresses, and we were getting answers back very quickly.”

Results and Benefits

A more scalable cost model: LATRO can expand capacity using its own compute hardware instead of incurring comparable recurring charges for additional virtual resources.

Faster operational control: LATRO’s technical team directly manages compute, hypervisors, firewalls, and related infrastructure components.

A centralized hub for global production: Approximately 90% of LATRO’s production and cloudsupporting infrastructure now operates from TierPoint’s Pennsylvania facility, supported by TierPoint’s 100% uptime SLA.

Validated connectivity for distributed operations: Pre-migration testing helped confirm the environment could meet LATRO’s latency and packet-loss requirements.

A secure foundation for sensitive workloads: The facility supports LATRO’s need to protect sensitive telecom and financial information while addressing customer and regulatory requirements.

Capacity for continued growth: LATRO has a scalable foundation for increased data volumes, analytics workloads, and expanding fintech services.

Looking Forward
LATRO is expanding its Fintech offering, has secured a significant new contract, and expects growing customer demand to drive larger data volumes and increased compute requirements.

With most of its production and cloud infrastructure now consolidated at TierPoint, LATRO has a foundation designed to support continued growth across its fraud prevention, revenue assurance, analytics, and Fintech services.

“What this environment really gives us is the ability to scale without adding significant marginal infrastructure costs. That’s a big deal for our business.”
