Sustainability at TierPoint
TierPoint is committed to sustainable business practices within our state-of-the-art data centers around the country. Our goal is to help power a green future through efficient and responsible energy consumption.
GRESB Achievements
We participate annually in the GRESB Infrastructure Assessment. This global ESG benchmark for financial markets follows a rigorous methodology and provides a consistent framework to measure the performance of companies like ours.
We received a 92 score on our 2023 GRESB assessment. This score was
- 2 points better than our peer average of 90
- 7 points better than the GRESB overall average of 85
- 15 points better than our inaugural score from the 2022 assessment.
Recent Accomplishments
In the last year, we’ve undertaken a number of specific initiatives to support the continued advancement of our ESG priorities. These include:
- Retrofitting equipment and replacing older cooling, electrical and lighting systems to enhance energy efficiency
- Supporting programs to promote women’s leadership and career development opportunities
- Completing TierPoint Gives Back quarterly charitable donation drives
- Surveying customers to understand client needs and evaluate their experience with TierPoint services
- Maintaining standards-aligned cybersecurity management procedures to safeguard company and client information.
Sustainability Initiatives
TierPoint has a number of ongoing programs aimed at minimizing our environmental impact. Among other things:
- We track power usage efficiency, or PUE, and carbon footprint for our data centers on a monthly basis and have achieved a 13% improvement in PUE over the last several years.
- To achieve gains in energy efficiency, we’ve focused on steps such as:
- Modifying operational controls to increase efficiency in our cooling systems;
- Replacing and retrofitting inefficient cooling and electrical systems;
- Using highly efficient electrical and mechanical equipment on all new builds and expansions.
- We also participate in demand response programs to support the utility grid during peak periods. Generators enrolled in demand response programs are retrofitted and upgraded to meet appropriate emissions standards.
- We’ve adjusted maintenance and testing intervals of generators to reduce overall annual generator runtime.
- When evaluating supply contracts in deregulated markets, we consider the availability of renewable energy sources as a key criterion in our supplier evaluation process
Future Objectives
Our GRESB score, described above, demonstrates the robust and comprehensive nature of our ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) initiatives. As a complement to current efforts, we have set a number of forward-looking objectives, including these.
Environmental
We’re developing an emissions reduction target in line with Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) criteria and plan to submit that target to SBTi for its review by May 2025. SBTi drives ambitious climate action in the private sector by enabling organizations to set and publicly monitor progress against such targets.
Social/Employees
In addition to long-standing leadership development programs offered to our employees, we're enabling other opportunities for their personal, professional, and social growth. As one example, we're collaborating with TONE Networks throughout 2025 to formally structure resource groups for employees with common interests (e.g., wellness), providing access for each such group to shared content and collaborative exercises that will augment and advance their interests.
Governance
In early June 2025, we plan to implement the first phase of a new, best-in-breed technology stack, including Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Configure-Price-Quote (CPQ), and Contract Lifecyle Management (CLM) platforms. Collectively, these new and improved platforms will assist the organization with the capture, secure exchange, and overall integrity of key data sets, further enhancing our commitment to quality corporate governance.
