High-density colocation is designed to accommodate the increasing power requirements of modern IT equipment, particularly in artificial intelligence (AI) and other high-performance computing (HPC) workloads. In a high-density colocation setup, advanced cooling and power distribution systems manage the heightened heat generated by densely packed hardware. While traditional data centers might have power densities of around 2-5 kilowatts (kW) per rack, high-density colocation can reach much higher levels, often ranging from 15 kW to 30 kW with ability to exceed 130kw using advanced liquid to the chip cooling options.
Traditional colocation is delivered via standard industry-accepted racks and cabinets with no additional per-cabinet cooling offered. High density and ultra-high-density colocation are delivered via state-of-the-art self-contained cabinets with integrated cooling options.
