“We went from juggling vendors on three continents to a single, accountable partner just minutes from our office, and that completely changed our operational model.”

- Jason Remillard

President & CEO, Data443

Background

Data443 specializes in data security solutions across multiple verticals. Their capabilities include threat intelligence, spam and phishing detection, managed file transfer for fintech clients, and email archiving for state and local government customers.

The company name references port 443, the secure HTTPS protocol, reflecting their focus on data security and protection. Through 14 acquisitions since 2016, Data443 has built a comprehensive data security portfolio serving customers globally through OEM integrations and direct software-as-a-service offerings.

The Challenge

In 2023, Data443 acquired a major spam and phishing service provider that had declared bankruptcy during a failed public cloud migration. The acquisition brought five global data center locations: two facilities in Germany, two in the United States, and one in Tokyo. The California facility alone occupied 600 square feet with 19 racks that had been in place since 2002.

The inherited data center footprint created immediate challenges:

  • Lease costs for five global sites totaled $500,000 a month, putting pressure on the consolidated business.
  • Previous providers required pre-paid infrastructure and showed no flexibility during bankruptcy.
  • The Germany facilities were especially difficult, with months-long delays due to shipping constraints, loading dock problems, and language barriers.

The acquired company’s cloud migration had grown ten times over the original budget and failed to simplify operations. Data443 found that the cloud environment still required extensive engineering, backup configuration, and ongoing management, which ultimately led the team back to a colocation strategy.

When Data443 approached their previous colocation provider in late 2024 to accommodate equipment from the consolidation, they learned the site had no available power and insufficient space for the required racks. Despite months of notice, the provider couldn’t accommodate the six racks needed immediately or six more to follow.

The Solution

TierPoint delivered a rapid, turnkey solution. Within weeks of engagement, they provisioned 13 racks with diverse power feeds at their RTP facility, located near Data443’s headquarters. When adjacent space became available, TierPoint immediately offered the expansion, enabling Data443 to scale from nine to 13 racks without disruption.

To ensure a seamless transition, TierPoint’s team:

  • Provided essential logistical support for Data443’s global consolidation project.
  • Offered secure storage for incoming equipment for several weeks.
  • Installed intelligent PDUs and provided diverse power feeds for high-availability needs.
  • Supplied shared on-site tools, eliminating the need for Data443 to manage their own equipment inventory.

The Raleigh location provided substantial operational advantages. On-site data center staff enabled immediate issue resolution for power problems, cabling needs, and moves/adds/changes through both ticket systems and face-to-face collaboration. The proximity to Data443’s headquarters facilitated hands-on management.

“What really stands out with TierPoint is the people,” said Jason Remillard, President and CEO at Data443. “They turned around racks, power, and networking in weeks and gave us the flexibility we needed on storage and logistics when we were under intense pressure. When something comes up, we’re talking directly to the folks who actually run the data center, solving problems side by side. It feels less like a vendor relationship and more like an extension of our own team.”

Results and Benefits

Dramatic Cost Reduction. The consolidation from five global data centers to a single TierPoint facility eliminated $500,000 in monthly lease costs. This represented the single largest cost reduction in Data443's infrastructure budget.

Accelerated Time to Market. A fixed-cost infrastructure lets Data443’s team quickly launch and test new products, cutting out months of planning and speeding up releases compared to complex cloud environments.

Operational Simplification. Data443 moved from juggling vendors around the world to working with one accountable local partner, leaving behind inflexible providers that were hard to work with during bankruptcy.

Infrastructure Reliability. TierPoint’s power options let Data443 build full redundancy, use smart monitoring for alerts, and ensure reliable power and environmental controls for their storage systems.

Support for Growth Initiatives. TierPoint’s Raleigh facility supports Data443’s growing portfolio, including Microsoft cloud and email integrations, and powers large-scale data classification for 43 languages, needing strong, reliable infrastructure.

Looking Forward

Data443 continues to expand its TierPoint footprint to support new initiatives and enhance its ability to help customers stay ahead of rapidly evolving cyber threats. The company is also exploring alignment with TierPoint’s managed detection and response (MDR) capabilities to further strengthen its security offerings.

As AI training data demands grow across its customer base, Data443 views TierPoint’s high-density colocation platform as a strategic foundation for future GPU-driven workloads.

“We run our own threat intelligence and data security stack on top of TierPoint’s tightly managed colocation platform," said Remillard. “That combination gives us a level of confidence we couldn’t get elsewhere from end to end.”
